Jimmie D. Grimes

Jimmie Dale Grimes, 68, of Phoenix, AZ, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Thunderbird Medical Center.

Mr. Grimes graduated from Huntington High School in 1969. He served as a medic in the United States Army for nine years and was credited with saving the lives of a fellow soldier and a military police officer. After returning to Huntington, he worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital. He had also worked at Etna Acres Golf Course. He moved to Arizona in the mid-1980s and was co-owner of Gold Star, a heating and air conditioning company, and taught HVAC technicians at RSI. He also coached community basketball teams.

He was born Oct. 8, 1948, in Huntington to Janice and John Grimes. He married Cynthia Stonebraker in 1977, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Brian Grimes, Andrew Grimes and Erik Grimes; and three grandchildren, Brayden Grimes, Makayla Grimes and Kaydence Grimes.

Cremation was May 12, 2017, in Phoenix, AZ. A private memorial service will be held.

West Resthaven Funeral Home, Glendale, AZ, was in charge of arrangements.
