Ansel Beck

Ansel E. Beck, 93, a former resident of Ossian, IN, died early Monday morning, May 1, 2017, at Heritage Pointe, in Warren, IN.

Mr. Beck graduated from Ossian High School. He served in the United States Navy on the battleship USS Langfit during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He worked as a driver for Gerber Dairy, in Bluffton, and later at Royal Lace Doilies, in Fort Wayne. He retired in 1988 from Tuthill Pump Corporation, in Fort Wayne.

He was a member of American Legion Post 111, of Bluffton, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 600, in Waynedale. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 571 F&AM, in Decatur, and a former member of the Tocsin United Methodist Church.

He was born July 10, 1923, in Allen County to John E. and Effie Woods Beck. He married Ruth A. Stahl on Aug. 5, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 1999.

Survivors include four sons, John (Mary) Beck, of Crossville, TN; Richard “Dick” (Paula) Beck, of Bluffton; Ernie (Patti) Beck, of Craigville; and Les (Stephanie) Beck, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Pamela (Mike) Grabner, of Monroeville; a brother, Verlin Beck, of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 10 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, May 5, 2017, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, in Bluffton, with Eastern Star and Masonic memorial services following calling. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Devon Strine will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery, in Tocsin, with military rites by American Legion Post 111 in conjunction with the United States Navy.
