Mary Opal Smith, 94, of Marion, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 12:02 p.m. at Colonial Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation, in Marion.
Mrs. Smith retired from RCA, where she had worked for 28 years, and had previously worked at the Shoe Factory, in Marion, and at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
She was born Sept. 29, 1922, near Ashland, KY, to Henry and Blanch Hatfield Hart. Her stepfather was Byron Griffith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clyde W. Smith.
Survivors include a son, Clyde (Carolyn) Smith, of Marion; a brother, Silas Hart, of Louisville, KY; a sister, Hazel Stephens, of Marion; four grandchildren, Kelly (Greg) Battas, of Fishers; Terry (Mike) Grigsby, of Florida; Mark (Sara) Story, of Huntington; and Mike Story, of Van Buren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
Calling is Monday, April 17, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a service following at 7 p.m., at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Rev. Mick Simpkins will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County.
