Deloris Marie Schoenlein, 89, died early Friday morning, March 10, 2017, at The Heritage of Huntington, where she had been a resident since March of 2016.
Mrs. Schoenlein grew up in Wabash County and graduated from Urbana High School, moving to Huntington County in 1946. She later moved back to Wabash County and then to rural Columbia City.
She was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Kokomo to Harvey L. and Tressie Lorena Stewart Prather. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald “Jerry” Morford. She married Woodrow Schoenlein on Aug. 13, 1966, and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her long-time companion, Byron “Barney” Wagoner.
Survivors include two sons, Gene (Carol) Morford, of Columbia City, and Roger (Gail) Morford, of Larwill; two daughters, Donna (Ken) Metzger, of Columbia City, and Jane Clore, of Columbus, OH; three sisters, Lorena King, of Sebring, FL; Donna Nusbaum, of Willshire, OH; and Lois Hacker, of Huntington; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, March 15, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a service following at 4 p.m., at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will take place at a later date at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, in Huntington County.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Humane Society or animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
