Don E. Zent, 79, of Van Buren, IN, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, at 9:45 p.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.
Mr. Zent was president of the 1956 graduating class of Van Buren High School. He was a rural route carrier in the Grant County area for many years and was a past president of the Indiana Rural Letter Carrier Association. He also worked on the family farm. He was involved with Masonic Lodge 711, Scottish Rite and Shriners and was a member of Central Christian Church, in Van Buren, where he had served as an elder for nearly 40 years. His winter home was in Mission, TX.
He was born Jan. 19, 1938, in Van Buren to James Arthur and Iva Mae Williamson Zent. He married Donna Lee Karchner on Aug. 25, 1957, and she survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Michael (Peggy) Zent, of Goshen; a daughter, Darla (Bret) Ewer, of Mission, TX; a brother, Richard (Judy) Zent, of Van Buren; a sister, Vera (Thomas) Kitts, of Van Buren; four grandsons, Larry (Sabrina) Brown, Dannon (Jenny) Brown, Pierce Zent and Parker Zent; two stepgranddaughters, Haley (Randal) Brensdal and Jenny Ewer; and nine great-grandchildren.
Calling is Sunday, March 12, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Central Christian Church, in Van Buren. A service will be held at the church on Monday, March 13, 2017, at 11 a.m. Heath Jones, pastor, and Ginny Soultz, chaplain, will officiate. Interment will be at the Van Buren Cemetery, in Van Buren.
