Bernita L. Kimpel

Bernita Louise Kimpel, 93, of Kendallville, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Woodview, in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Kimpel retired from Community Living, in Angola, where she had served as music therapy director for 20 years. She had also worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a unit secretary and at Johnny Appleseed, in Fort Wayne. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, in Kendallville.

She was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Huntington to Joseph Omar and Rosetta Bernice Brock. Her first marriage was in Fort Wayne to Ralph Oberholtzer, and he preceded her in death. She married Paul Henry Kimpel on July 12, 1985, in Hawaii, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Ralph (Cathy) Oberholtzer, of Churubusco; four daughters, Nancy (Don) Frisby, of Port Charlotte, FL; Sandra (Bill) Kumfer, of Estero, FL; Carol Erpelding, of Cape Coral, FL; and Cindy Reader, of Fort Wayne; a sister, Delores Grimm, of Muncie; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

A service was held on Monday, March 6, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Hite Funeral Home, in Kendallville, with Rev. Bob Shriner officiating. Burial was at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
