Joan M. Robel

Joan M. Robel, 86, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Kingston Care Center, in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Robel graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1949 and graduated cum laude from Memphis State University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology. In her youth, she was a runway model in Chicago, IL. She was an accountant for several businesses during her working career. She also volunteered for many years at the Denver Museum of Natural History and Ocean Journey Aquarium in Denver, CO.

She was born in Elwood to Edward and Eleanor Ley.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Robel-Hall, O.D., of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Donald (Sandra) Ley, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Robert Ley, of Queen Creek, AZ; three sisters, Marilyn Nagaich, of Mason, OH; Dorothy Stetzel, of Roanoke; and Betty Hammond, of Fort Wayne; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ley, of Fort Wayne; and a granddaughter, Sarah Marie Hall.

Calling is Monday, March 6, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Rd., Fort Wayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for Masses.
