Ruth E. Garshwiler

Ruth E. Garshwiler, 91, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a former resident of Bippus, IN, died Sunday, Feb.7, 2016, at 6:50 a.m. at St. Anne Home, in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Garshwiler graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1943 and earned a degree in nursing from St. Margaret’s Hospital in 1947. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Fort Wayne, and at Huntington County Hospital, then worked 30 years as a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, in Huntington, and a member of American Legion Post 7 Auxiliary.

She was born Jan. 20, 1925, in Huntington to Charles E. and Goldie M. Braden Bartrom. She married Bill A. Garshwiler on July 7, 1951, and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2013.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Thomas) Scribner, of Shallotte, NC, and Julie Garshwiler, of Huntertown; a son, Tadd (Jean) Garshwiler, of Huntertown; a brother, Mark Bartrom, of South Whitley; four grandchildren, Paul (Emily) Scribner, of Jacksonville, NC; Jenny (Jesse) Moore and Scott Garshwiler, both of Fort Wayne; and Patrick (Jessamine) Scribner, of Liberty Township, OH; and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Deal-Rice Funeral Chapel, Huntington Chapel. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at noon at St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, with Rev. Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
