Helen Hewitt

Helen Showalter Hewitt, 96, of Marion, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015.

Mrs. Hewitt was a homemaker and had served as secretary at McCulloch Middle School for 20 years. She was a member of the South Marion Church of Christ and the American Business Women’s Association. She also volunteered at the Cancer Society. She lived in Huntington for 11 years before moving to Marion.

She was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Merced, CA, to Wilbur “Nick” and Helen Guild Showalter. She married Claude Hewitt on March 27, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Hewitt, of Marion, and David (Beverly) Hewitt, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Becky (Stephen) Welch, of Woodstock, IL; a brother, Richard Showalter; a sister, Margaret Keith; a sister-in-law, Marietta Showalter; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Rd., Marion. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at 10 a.m., with John Dicus officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, in Marion.
