Loren E. Winger

Loren E. Winger, 87, of Grant County, IN, and having ties to Huntington County, IN, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at 8:15 a.m.

Mr. Winger served as an Indiana state representative for Wabash County and parts of Grant, Miami and Huntington counties for eight years after his election in 1974.

He was a 1946 graduate of Jackson Township High School, in Howard County. He was a farmer and had served as Richland Township trustee and as a school board member for the Oak Hill School Corporation. He had also worked as a real estate broker and auctioneer with Schrader Real Estate. He was a member of the Converse Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and was involved in many ministries of the church.

He was born in 1928 in Pleasant Township, Grant County, to Raymond and Lenore Harter Winger. He married Marilyn Summers on Dec. 19, 1948, and she preceded him in death in October of 2012.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita (Ashley) Baker and Ronda (Harold) Smuck, both of Converse; two sons, Ryan (Honey) Winger, of Marion, and Roland (Becky) Winger, of Lafayette; two sisters, Joan (Eugene) Schaaf, of Kokomo, and Leah Joyce (Art) Hubbard, of Converse; a brother, Donald (Judy) Winger, of Greentown; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the Converse Church of Christ, 301 E. Wabash St., Converse with calling one hour prior to the service. Calling is at the church on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, Dec. 3. Burial will be at Converse Cemetery, in Converse.
