Corwin A. 'Corky' Draper

Corwin A. “Corky” Draper, 94, of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at 2:40 a.m. at The Heritage of Huntington.

Mr. Draper was a World War II veteran, serving from October of 1943 to December of 1945, and was a member of the United States Navy Seabees. He worked as a machine set-up/operator at Precise Manufacturing, formerly known as Fries Tool & Machine Works, for 47 years.

He was a member of Central Christian Church, where he served as an elder, deacon and usher. He was a life member of Moose Lodge 837, in Huntington, and had been a member of the lodge since 1942, earning the Pilgrim’s Degree and the Huntington Moose Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a life member of American Legion Post 7 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689, coached Little League for several years, worked with Huntington County Boy Scout Troop 124 and worked with the Red Cross bloodmobile. He was a member of the Bowling Association and Etna Acres Golf Course.

He was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Huntington to Joseph A. and Edith C. Dinius Draper. He married Margaret K. Weiford on July 17, 1943, in Huntington, and his wife survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Donald C. Draper, of Irving, TX; David P. (Lucy) Draper, of Columbia City; and Robert D. (Ronda) Draper, of Castaic, CA; a daughter, Susan L. Draper, of Huntington; six grandchildren, Jessica Draper, Jason Draper, Mary Beth (Brad) Schuman, Joel Umbaugh, Emily Caloroso and Julie Umbaugh; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling is Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Chris Hayden officiating. Interment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
