William J. 'Bill' MacDonald

William J. “Bill” MacDonald, 82, of Auburn, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at DeKalb Health.

Mr. MacDonald worked as a golf pro for 21 years, first as assistant pro at Marywood County Club, in Battle Creek, MI, and later as a golf pro at Wickenburg Country Club, in Wickenburg, AZ; South Haven Country Club, in South Haven, MI; Hastings Country Club, in Hastings, MI; Greenhurst Country Club, in Auburn; and Pine Valley Country Club, in Fort Wayne. He then worked 30 years as program director for Golf World Magazine.

He was a United States Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He had lived in Auburn for 50 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Auburn. He was a life member of the Professional Golfers Association.

He was born Aug. 15, 1932, in South Bend to Myron Douglas and Genevieve MacDonald. He married Alice Loraine Gallimore in 1955 in Niles, MI, and she survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, W. Robert “Bob” (Carla) MacDonald, of Huntington, and John (Kim) MacDonald, of Auburn; a daughter, Tena (Steve Greulich) MacDonald, of Indianapolis; a brother, Walter (Affia) MacDonald, of Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Laura Adams, of South Bend; four grandchildren, Jessica (Aaron) Baker, of West Lafayette; Jennifer (Kevin) Yarger, of Huntington; and Madison MacDonald and Donavon MacDonald, both of Auburn; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Wilbur Yates officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn, with military honors by the United States Army.
