John E. Plummer

John E. Plummer, 90, of Warren, IN, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 10:30 p.m., at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.

Mr. Plummer graduated from Van Buren High School in 1941 and from International Business College, in Fort Wayne, in 1942. He was a farmer and worked as an accountant for Dulan, Ward and DeWald, retiring from both professions in 1985. He had been a member of the Van Buren United Methodist Church since 1935, holding many church offices and serving as a Sunday school teacher for 62 years.

He was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Van Buren to Herald and Mary Plummer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Maxine Schweikhardt. He later married Martha Robinson, who survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Kathleen (Bob) Thies, of Mishawaka, and Norma (Craig) Korporal, of Marion; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Plummer, of Van Buren; a stepdaughter, Rosalie (Gary) Walter; two stepsons, Byron (Marsha) Robinson and David Robinson; a sister, Ruth (Artie) Benefiel; a sister-in-law, Glenna Plummer; four grandchildren, Donnie (Jen) Plummer, Jenny Plummer, Todd (Cassie) Korporal and Abby (Dillon) Cross; and seven great-grandchildren.

Calling is Sunday, July 20, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Applegate Chapel at Heritage Pointe, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren. A service will be held in the chapel on Monday, July 21, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., with calling beginning at 10 a.m. Chaplain Ginny Soultz will officiate. Interment will be at the Van Buren Cemetery, in Van Buren.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Van Buren United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Memorial Home Foundation Verna Johnson Nursing Scholarship.
