Richard D. Marshall

Richard D. Marshall, 88, of Bluffton, IN, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 3:15 p.m. at his home.

Mr. Marshall, a lifelong resident of Wells County, graduated from Bluffton High School in 1946 and went on to serve in the United States Navy Reserves. He was the co-owner and co-operator of Graden Tire in Bluffton for 43 years, retiring in 1992. He also managed many rental properties in Bluffton, and he sold real estate in Wells County for 30 years, most recently with Shaw Real Estate & Auction Co.

He founded Boy Scout Troop 148 and was its scoutmaster for five years. He was registered with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 75 years, receiving the Order of the Arrow, Silver Beaver Award and numerous other scouting recognitions.

He was a member of the Bluffton Masonic Lodge 145, where he became a master mason in 1949, and was a member of the Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton, where he has served as an elder, trustee and a deacon. He was also a member of the Bluffton Elks Lodge.

He was born May 26, 1926, in Wells County to Homer M. and Lula B. Dedrick Marshall. He married Jean J. Graden on Nov. 27, 1949. His wife survives.

Other survivors include a son, Patrick Marshall, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Kay (Rod) Stine of Huntington; and five grandchildren, Stefanie Stine and Sarah Stine, both of Huntington, and Kiersten Marshall, Tessa Marshall and Nicole Keller, all of Fort Wayne.

Calling is from Thursday, July 17, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. A Masonic memorial service will be take place immediately following at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be Friday, July 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Laura Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton.
