Alice L. Cassell

Alice LaVern Cassell, 89, of Arcanum, OH, and having family members in Warren, IN, died Thursday, June 26, 2014.

Mrs. Cassell graduated from Monroe High School, in Pitsburg, OH, in 1944. She was a homemaker and served as a 4-H advisor for the Monroe Banner 4-H Club for 20 years.
She was active in the Church of the Brethren and became a lifetime deacon in 1970 at the Potsdam Church of the Brethren, where she taught the primary Sunday school class for 50 years. She had served on the Christian Education board and many commissions of the church and, with her family, served as caretaker of the church.

She was born March 23, 1925, in Arcanum, OH, to Harley and Susie Miller Ditmer. She married Bernie Cassell on Feb. 23, 1946, in Pitsburg, OH. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2012.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue (Kerry) Price, of Milford; Brenda Shiverdecker, of Arcanum, OH; and Rosemary (Tom) Harvey, of Warren; two sons, Roger (Carole) Cassell, of South Haven, MI, and Jeff (Margret) Cassell, of Vandalia, OH; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Lori) Price, Kara (Mark) Messmore, Ryan (Holly) Shiverdecker, Adam Shiverdecker, Katelin (Tony) Herber, Heather Cassell, Brittany (Brian) Soderquist, Lauren Cassell and Kacie Cassell; two stepgrandchildren, Zach Sheehy and D J Lawson; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Monday, July 30, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Potsdam Church of the Brethren. A service will be held at the church on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Robert W. Kurtz officiating. Burial will be at Mote Cemetery.
