Carol S. Davis

Carol Sue Davis, 83, of North Manchester, IN, and having local relatives, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at 1:45 p.m., at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester.

Mrs. Davis was a 1948 graduate of Princeton High School, and a 1952 graduate of the University of Evansville. She was a music teacher at various schools, finishing her career at Manchester Community Schools, where she taught for 20 years. She taught junior and senior high vocal music, show choirs and musicals.

While at Peabody Retirement Community, she founded the Peabody Entertainers, and held over 200 programs. She also established various vocal groups at Peabody, including the Chapel Choir, Carolettes and the Bell Choir, and was also a longtime director of the Zion Lutheran Choir in North Manchester. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in North Manchester.

She was born Sept. 3, 1930, in Princeton to Ottie and Lenora Woods Harris. She married Samuel Mauck Davis in Princeton on Sept. 27, 1953. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2006.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth (Cynthia) Heckman-Davis, of Walkerton; Steve Davis, of North Manchester; and Jim (Kathy) Davis, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Ruth (Greg) Reed, of Huntington; a sister, Jane Mowrer, of Indianapolis; and five grandchildren, Allison (Jake) Gregory, of Potomac, IL; Leigh Ann Reed, of Huntington; Sean Heckman-Davis and Ann Heckman-Davis, both of Walkerton; and Kennedy Davis, of Indianapolis.

Calling is Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester, and on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, for one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service, at Peabody Chapel, 400 W. 7th St., North Manchester. Rev. Larry Ray will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Mauck Cemetery in Owensville.
