Eugene J. Johnson Jr., 80, of Ossian, IN, and having ties to Roanoke, IN, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Johnson, a former resident of Fort Wayne, retired from International Harvester in 1983 and later worked for the Fort Wayne Community Schools. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve in 1959. He was a member of American Legion Post 160, in Roanoke, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 40/8.
He was born Jan. 17, 1933, in New York, NY, to Eugene Sr. and Ann Yanacek Johnson. He married Vera Geels, who preceded him in death after 52 years of marriage.
Survivors include five sons, Richard (Nancy Neary) Johnson, of Demotte; Gary (Gwenn) Johnson, of Rochester, MI; Terry (Mary) Johnson, of Fort Wayne; Thomas (Susan) Johnson, of Albion; and Mark Johnson, of Knoxville, TN; a daughter, Linda Adams, of Ossian; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m., at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
