Effie M. Zent

Effie Mae Zent, 99, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at 6:03 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren, IN, where she had been a resident since 2007.

Mrs. Zent, a former resident of Huntington, retired from Hutner's Clothing, in Fort Wayne. She had also worked at Howard's Gift Shop, Triad-Utrad Industries, Wolf & Dessauer of Huntington and Fort Wayne, and L.S. Ayres in Fort Wayne.

She was a 75-year member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Huntington, a member of the Warren Township Homemakers Club and participated in 4-H for many years. She studied violin and once played with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

She was born Feb. 10, 1914, in Huntington County to LeRoy and Susan Brauchla Beal. She married James Blaine Maples on Feb. 4, 1939, in Huntington County, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1974. She married Lawson "Baldy" Zent in 1979, and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan (Carl) Zinsmeister, of Huntington; a stepson, William (Laura) Zent, of Huntington; a sister, Theresa Reust, of Huntington; three granddaughters, Melissa (Mark) Underwood, Jill (Todd) Landrum and Emily (Shawn) Beard; 10 great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Calling is Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A service will be held at the mortuary on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Marti Lundy officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery, Huntington County.
