James F. Karst

James F. Karst, 91, of Huntington, IN, died early Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2013, at The Heritage of Huntington.

Mr. Karst was a lifelong farmer in Huntington County. He also baled hay and cut timber for many years. He served on the board of directors for United REMC, the Soil Conservation Board and Riverside Cemetery. He was an ASCS surveyor and had been a member of the Farm Bureau since the 1940s.

A 1940 graduate of Monument City High School, he was a member of Pilchers Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Loon Creek Odd Fellows Lodge 322 and Andrews Rebekah Lodge 37. He participated in bowling leagues for more than 30 years.

He was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Wabash County to Augustus S. and Jesse Mae Bigelow Karst. He married Jean Ellen Meyer on Aug. 23, 1947, in Huntington. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Jim Karst and Rick L. (Jenny) Karst, both of Huntington; three daughters, Judy (Don) Davis-Fleck, Becky Miller and Jo Ellen (Doug) Earhart, all of Huntington; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Pilchers Chapel United Methodist Church, 2039S-600W, Huntington. Rev. Verlin Roth and Clint Karst will officiate. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, in Andrews.
