Mary A. Uptgraft, 89, of Warren, IN, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.
Mrs. Uptgraft was a former resident of Nottingham Township, Wells County, where she had worked on the family farm. She had also worked in the administrative offices of Wells Community Hospital and Caylor-Nickel Clinic.
She graduated from Bluffton High School in 1942 and was a member of the First Baptist Church and Home Economics Club. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and at the polls for elections.
She was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Wells County to William "Dail" and Ethel O. Jarrett Bulger. She married Weisell Uptgraft on July 8, 1944, in Bryant. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1986.
Survivors include three daughters, Jan (Doug "Beck") Beaty, of Anderson; Sheila (Mike) Zimmerman, of Brazil; and Laura Chaney, of Greenwood; a son, James (Denise) Uptgraft, of McCordsville; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A service was held on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 East Ind.-124, Bluffton, with Gerald O. Moreland officiating. Calling will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Burial will be at Alberson Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation.
