Alvena Maxine Dolby, 96, of Columbia City, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Sept.15, 2013, at Parkview Oaks, Columbia City.
Mrs. Dolby graduated from Brooksville (OH) High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Huntington College. She taught for 30 years at various schools, retiring from Thorncreek Township School. She was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women-Phoebe Circle.
She was born Feb. 2, 1917, in Ossian to Lawrence and Nellie Confer Middaugh. She married Phillip Raymond Dolby on Aug. 12, 1940, in Huntington. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn (David) Squier, of Pahrump, NV; a sister, Evelyn Baker, of Huntington; a grandson, David Squier Jr., of Las Vegas, NV; and a great-granddaughter.
Calling is Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a service following at 3 p.m., at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Rev. David Arnold will officiate. Burial will be at Nolt Cemetery.
