Sandra J. Carter

Sandra Jane Carter, 73, of Wabash, IN, and having family members in Huntington County, IN, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at 6:09 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Carter graduated from Wabash High School in 1957. She earned a bachelor's degree from Manchester College and a master's degree from Ball State University. She taught first and second grades at Southwood Elementary School, Wabash, from 1969 until her retirement from the Metropolitan School District of Wabash County. After retiring from teaching, she worked with students as a tutor. She was a member of Wabash Friends Church.

She was born July 24, 1939, in Wabash to Charles R. and Mary A. Brown Keppel. Her mother survives in North Manchester. She married Gerald L. "Jerry" Carter on March 7, 1959, and he survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Christine Curless, of LaFontaine, and Lorri (Greg) Miller, of Andrews; a brother, Phil (Nancy) Keppel, of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Maggi (Rich) Easterday, of Wabash; Liza Miller, of Andrews; and Ryan Curless, of LaFontaine; and a great-granddaughter.

Calling is Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Wabash Friends Church, 3563 S. Ind.-13, Wabash. Alex Falder will officiate. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Wabash.
