Rex H. Hoover

Rex Harold Hoover, 80, of Churubusco, IN, and a native of Roanoke, IN, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10:20 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Hoover graduated from Roanoke High School in 1951 and was inducted into the Huntington County Sports Hall of Fame in 1978. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired in 1996 from the Kroger Warehouse, in Fort Wayne, and was also a farmer. He was a member of Skyline Church, Fort Wayne, and American Legion Post 777.

He was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Roanoke to William Dale and Clarissa Mary Harvey Hoover. He married Kay Arlene "Sam" Patten on Oct. 6, 1957, in Roanoke. She preceded him in death after 53 years of marriage.

Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly "Kim" Hoover, of Churubusco; a son, Michael A. (Michelle) Hoover, of Wolcottville; and three grandchildren, Andrew A. Knapp, of Fort Wayne, and Mara R. Knapp and Megan S. Vogts, both of Churubusco.

Calling is Tuesday, May 21, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Britney Sloffer officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery.
