L. Kay Roberts, 74, of Markle, IN, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 11:32 p.m. at his residence.
Mr. Roberts graduated in 1956 from East Rockcreek High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Manchester College in 1962 and a master's degree from St. Francis in 1972. He taught history and social studies at Norwell Middle School. He also taught physical education and was a coach at Lancaster before retiring after 28 years.
He was born June 24, 1938, in Wells County, to Francis Earl and Jennie Kathryn Maddux Roberts. He married Karen Kay Bender on July 23, 1960, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Uniondale. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Kerry (Laura) Roberts, of Bluffton, and Kirk (Suzanne) Roberts, of Ossian; a daughter, Kelli (Brian) Reifel, of Westfield, two sisters, Betty (Darwin) McAfee and Joyce (Richard) Longenberger, both of Bluffton; a brother, Fred (Carol) Roberts, of Churubusco; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling will be held Friday, April 5, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. Ind.-124 , Bluffton. A service will be held at the chapel Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one our prior to service. Burial will be at Markle Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
