Doris E. Van Houten

Doris Elaine Van Houten, 83, a resident of Columbia City, IN, and having relatives in Huntington County, IN, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 12:46 p.m. at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Van Houten was a 1947 graduate of Coesse High School. She had been employed at Blue Bell, Scott's Bakery and United Technologies of Columbia City before becoming a homemaker.

She was a charter member of the Columbia City Church of the Brethren, where she served as the church receiving treasurer, Sunday school teacher and was active in women's fellowship.

She was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Ari to Wyland and Iva Gump Zumbrun. She married Dale Obert Van Houten on Feb. 18, 1949. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela (Michael) Hoppe, of Columbia City, and Steven (Lisa) Van Houten, of Plymouth; a sister, Betty Rex, of Columbia City; a brother, Paul (Evelyn) Zumbrun, of Columbia City; six grandchildren, Scott (Cara) Hoppe, of Fort Wayne; Seth (Andrea) Hoppe, of Hamlet; Stephanie (Michael) Bradbury and Sherlynn (J.J.) Sims, both of Roanoke; and Joshua Van Houten and Erin Van Houten, both of Plymouth; and five great-grandchildren.

A service was held Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Columbia City Church of the Brethren.
