James D. 'Jim' Palmer

James Dale "Jim" Palmer, 79, of Marion, IN, and a native of Huntington County, IN, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Palmer graduated from Marion High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. He operated Palmer's Supermarket in Marion for 26 years, selling the business in 1983 and opening Jim's Tackle Shop. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Gas City and the Huntington and Marion Bass Clubs.

He was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Huntington County to Howard and Dorothy Keith Palmer. He married Carole Jean Beltz on Aug. 4, 1957, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie Palmer, of Marion, and Jenny (Eric) Treon, of Gas City; two sisters-in-law, Susan (Dan) Duke and Becky McDonough, both of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Larry Beltz, of Arizona; and two grandchildren, Josh Treon and Erika Treon, both of Gas City.

A service was held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, Gas City, with Rev. David Shephard officiating. Burial was at Grant Memorial Park, Marion.
