W. Leon Goodmiller

W. Leon Goodmiller, 79, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at 4:45 p.m. at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.

Mr. Goodmiller, a 1951 graduate of Lancaster High School, earned a Bachelor of Science from Manchester College in 1955 and a master's degree from Ball State University in 1960. He retired in 1993 after teaching math for 38 years at Lancaster Township High School, Huntington High School and Huntington North High School. He also coached basketball and baseball. He served as athletic director at Huntington North High School from 1969 to 1976. He had also farmed in Lancaster and Rock Creek townships.

He was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, the HCCSC Retired Teachers Association, Indiana State Retired Teachers Association and the Huntington North High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a supporting member of the Forks of the Wabash Historic Park. He had coached Little League and Pony League for Huntington County Baseball for several years.

He was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Lancaster Township, Huntington County, to Warren U. and Opal J. Funderburg Goodmiller. He married Marvel E. McClurg on June 6, 1954, at the Markle Church of the Brethren. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Joan (Roger) Warner, of Huntington; Jane (Patrick) Botts, of Muncie; and Sara (Brian) Weidman, of Greenwood; a son, David (Cheryl) Goodmiller, of Bluffton; nine grandchildren, Lori Alwine, Kari Peters, Erica Bucholtz, Krista Verba, Benjamin Botts, Rhett Goodmiller, Nolan Weidman, Adam Botts and Lauren Weidman; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Diana Siegel and Chaplain Mike Smith will officiate. Interment will be at Lancaster Cemetery.
