Thurlo 'Joe' Jenkins

Thurlo "Joe" Jenkins, 83, with family members in Huntington, IN, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Meadowvale Nursing Home, Bluffton, IN.
Mr. Jenkins, a former resident of Portland, served with the United States Army from 1946 to 1948. He worked as a semi driver for 25 years before retiring.
He was born March 17, 1929, in Randolph County to Luther and Edith Cheesaman Jenkins. He married Barbara VanNote on Aug. 24, 1954. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2012.
Survivors include four sons, Stephen (Karen) Jenkins and Kent Jenkins Sr., both of Portland; and Ricky Jenkins and William Jenkins, both of Montpelier; a daughter, Susan Arnold, of Huntington; two brothers, Raymond (Bea) Jenkins and Lloyd (Betty) Jenkins, both of Farmland; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, Portland, with Rev. Rex Collins officiating. Burial was at the Antioch Cemetery, near Portland.
