HCCSC schools to be closed through April 10

Huntington County Community School Corp. schools will be closed from March 16 through April 10,  due to the COVID-19 virus, administrators said in a press release issued earlier today, Friday, March 13.

School administrators will be re-evaluating the situation during spring break regarding the return of students on Monday, April 13, 2020.

At this time, HCCSC administration feels that closing school is in the best interest of its students, staff members and families.

Effective Thursday, March 12, 2020, HCCSC cancelled all extracurricular activities, cocurricular activities, field trips, competitions and other events until further notice.

Remote Learning will be implemented for the weeks of March 16 to 20 and March 23 to 27. For the week of March 30 to April 2, there will be no remote learning as HCCSC will be using four of the 20 waiver days the state has granted.

Spring break will be April 3 to April 10.

Administrators noted in the release that “these measures are being taken in an abundance of caution to reduce or limit exposure to the virus in our community. We encourage students to stay home during this time and continue to follow the healthy hygiene practices that have been laid out to help stop the spread of illness.”

A frequently asked question document is now available on the HCCSC website at www.hccsc.k12.in.us.

Additional information and updates will be communicated on the website, through SchoolMessenger and on social media platforms.

For questions, contact Superintendent Chad Daugherty at 356-8312.

The HCCSC Food Service Department will have “grab and go” meals for students who would normally be receiving reduced fee or free lunch during the school closure. Packages will contain five breakfast and five lunch meals in each bag. Each student may receive one packet each week that HCCSC is closed.
