The Huntington Fire Department (HFD) announced Wednesday, Jan. 27, that it has been awarded a $2,100 Indiana Public Employer’s Plan (IPEP) Safety Grant.

Chief Tony Johnson said the award will cover a portion of the cost of a fifth thermal imaging camera (TIC) for the department. HFD intends to equip two TICs on each of its three main engines.

“This will help us get to that goal,” Johnson said.

TICs help firefighters to see objects and heat sources in dark and smoky conditions.

Deputy Fire Chief Dave Teusch, who wrote the grant application, accepted the award during a presentation Wednesday afternoon at the Etna Avenue fire station.

Scott Smith of STAR Insurance assisted in the grant application process.
