State Rep. Dan Leonard (R-Huntington) was reappointed to serve as chair of the House Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee.

Leonard said in his second year as chair of this committee he feels more at ease with the demands and workload.

"This is a detail-oriented position that helps ensure the House operates smoothly and efficiently," Leonard said. "Upholding the integrity of this institution is a task I take seriously, and I'm ready to meet the challenges that may come up as we conduct session a bit differently this year."

Leonard was also reappointed to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee, and House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee.

"Passing a responsibly balanced budget is the overriding goal this session, and we will do so while continuing to live within our means as Hoosier taxpayers have come to expect and rely upon," Leonard said. "The latest budget forecast shows Indiana's economy is trending in the right direction despite the effects of the pandemic. We have reason to be cautiously optimistic, but it will take hard work to keep the state on the right fiscal path."

Standing committee appointments are made biennially after each election.
