CROP Walk planned for Oct. 4

On Oct. 4, walkers from various Huntington churches will join others across the country in the 51st CROP (Christian Rural Overseas Program) Hunger Walk.

On Oct. 4, 44 states will host Church World Service sponsored CROP walks with the same goal: a world where every child has enough healthy food every day. Building upon this legacy, CROP Hunger Walkers today are taking steps to not only end hunger for today, but forever. It is their belief that in the next 50 years, hunger will be ended and CROP walks will be a celebration that hunger is no more.

This year is a different time and some communities may have virtual walks.

This is an interfaith event and anyone is welcome to join. The walk starts at Central Christian Church at 1:30 p.m. and is approximately three miles long and ends back at the church. A shorter route is also available.

Local participation impacts not only local food banks, as 25 percent of funds raised stays in the host community, but the rest can go to over 35 different developing nations.

People in need may sometimes walk up to six miles a day to get food and water. One in nine people worldwide lack access to clean water and a healthy diet. Those who participate in CROP walks walk in solidarity to bring awareness to these issues and raise the funds for permanent change.
