The Roanoke Town Council selected Patrick Scher as its newest member Tuesday evening, July 7.

Scher was sworn in as the fourth member of the town council after the biweekly meeting adjourned.

He beat out two other townsfolk who were vying for the seat, and he was unanimously voted into the spot by the town’s standing three town council members.

Scher won the spot by presenting the board with his “40 years” of government experience, he says he earned in the city of Huntington. He also detailed his budgeting experience and numerous previous board seats held within Huntington County.

Scher will take the place of Troy Karshner, who stepped down from the council on June 30.

The council also approved $5,000 to be moved from its CEDIT fund to the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce, to help assist the chamber with staffing costs.

A case of vandalism at the local park was evaluated by council members. A resolution was passed to fine the individual guilty of the crime $150 restitution, and order five days, at four hours per day, of community service.

Superintendent Philip Hibbert updated the council about several items, including “lots of maintenance,” he says is going on.

“It’s a good thing; we’re busy,” he told the council.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21, at 6 p.m. at Roanoke Town Hall, located at 141 W. Third St., Roanoke.
