Sheriff’s department limiting access to facility

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department is limiting access to its facility, located at 332 E. State St., Huntington.

Anyone who is unsure of the importance of their situation should call Huntington County Dispatch at 356-8316.

There will be no change to the handling of urgent and emergency situations. Deputies will respond to these situations just as they did before.

Deputies will also continue to respond to non-emergency calls that require the physical presence of an officer.

Officers may be wearing latex gloves and offering no handshakes. Officers will likely maintain a safe interview distance and request, if possible, to communicate in open-air locations, such as the outdoors, porches, etc.

At this time, non-emergency calls that do not require the physical presence of an officer will be handled by the officer over the phone.

As for crash reports, they will only be available online at www.buycrash. com. Incident reports must be requested by filling out a public records request. The necessary paperwork can be found at www.hunt ington.in.us/county.

Regarding handgun permits, the application process for that document begins at www.in.gov/ isp/firearms.htm. Fingerprinting for handgun permits is no longer done at the sheriff’s department. To be fingerprinted, call 877-472-6917. After completing these two steps, individuals should call the sheriff’s department at 356-2520 and leave their name and a callback number. Office staff will be in touch to set up an appointment.

As for tax warrants, those will be paid online at www.indianataxwarrants.com or by mail to the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department, 332 E. State St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Regarding inmate visitation, all lobby kiosk visitations have been suspended. Family members may visit with inmates from home via video visitation. For video visits, go to www.icsolutions.com.

For more information, call the sheriff’s department at 356-2520.
