W. Park Drive to close on or after Aug. 19 for work

On or after Monday, Aug. 19, West Park Drive, in Huntington, will be closed to traffic from Bartlett Street to Dimond Street for the reconstruction of a box culvert carrying the historic stone WPA channel under West Park Drive.

In March, the City of Huntington was awarded $842,746 through the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Community Crossings program. These matching funds allow the city to reconstruct the West Park Drive Culvert and pave 3.7 miles of city streets.

The work is scheduled to be complete on or around Nov. 15. The city’s contractor, Pioneer Associates Inc., will have detours set up for motorists to follow. Detours for larger vehicles will include U.S.-24, Jefferson Street, to West Park Drive. A local detour will be set up that includes Hitzfield Street, Flaxmill Road, LaFontaine Street to West Park Drive. Appropriate signage will be provided to inform drivers.

The HCSWMD Recycling Drop off at 1205 W. Park Drive will remain open during construction. Those wishing to access that drop off will need to come on West Park Drive from the west and exit going west.

This project is weather dependent so start and stop times may fluctuate accordingly.

Any questions can be directed to the City of Huntington Public Works and Engineering Services Department at 356-1400 ext. 2020.
