Leonard to serve on NA Indian Affairs group

State Rep. Dan Leonard (R-Huntington) was recently selected to serve on the Native American Indian Affairs Commission.

The commission studies and makes recommendations to appropriate federal, state and local governmental agencies in areas of concern to Indiana’s native and non-native people.

“Our community’s significant affiliation with the Native American people, and my knowledge and understanding of their history spans many years,” Leonard said. “The Miami, Shawnee, Iroquois and Huron Native Americans all have history in Huntington, Wells and Allen counties.”

According to Leonard, the committee’s objectives are to unify the native community, identify and provide opportunities to the Native American people, and enhance social, cultural, community and economic development in Indiana.
