Duke Energy Foundation helping local food program, says Zay

The Duke Energy Foundation recently awarded $10,000 to fund Community Harvest Food Bank’s Huntington Farm Wagon program, said State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington).

Created in 1999, Community Harvest Food Bank launched the Farm Wagon program to provide fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products and sandwich bread to Hoosiers in low-income communities who lack access to nutritious food.

The program delivers more than 40,000 pounds of fresh food each week, with delivery trucks making a total of 86 stops each month across nine different counties, including six stops in Huntington County.

“I look forward to seeing the impact this grant will have on our community,” said Zay. “This grant alone will provide more than 50,000 pounds of food to people in need, which is truly remarkable. I commend the Duke Energy Foundation for its generous gift to Community Harvest Food Bank and its continued support of Senate District 17.”
