Show choirs to host community

The show choirs of Huntington North High School will hold a Community Appreciation Night tonight, Thursday, March 14, in the Huntington North Auditorium from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This free concert will feature the Varsity Singers, Viking Volume and Varsity Brass performing their current competition shows, in gratitude to the community for the support they have received this season.

The school’s ISSMA-award winning jazz band will provide additional entertainment.

On Saturday, March 16, the community is invited to bid the show choirs farewell as they depart for the state finals in Indianapolis. The show choirs will leave Huntington North at 7 a.m.

Fifty-three groups were vying for spots in the state finals and out of that pool, 10 women’s and nine mixed groups were selected, including Viking Volume in the unisex group and Varsity Singers in the mixed division.

This season, the show choirs have won grand championships, first runners up and caption awards for best vocals, best band, best performer, best soloists, best crew and more. Two solo competition singers won best soloist at every contest, with second and third-place showings as well.
