Property tax exemption apps due by April 1

Applications for property tax exemptions (Form 136) are due to the Huntington County Assessor’s Office on or before April 1.

An application can be filed by certain property that is owned, occupied and used predominantly for charitable, religious, educational or scientific purposes. To obtain an exemption, the property owner must file an application timely with the county assessor, along with the proper information that states the qualifications of the property to be tax exempt.

2019 applications need to be filed if new property has been obtained between Jan. 2, 2018, and Jan. 1, 2019. The application can be used for both real and personal property exemptions.
The form can be obtained from the assessor’s page on the county website at huntington.in.us or from the DLGF website, in.gov/dlgf/8516.htm.

Contact the assessor’s office with any questions at 358-4800. Completed forms along with appropriate paperwork can be mailed to 201 N. Jefferson St., Room 102, Huntington, IN 46750, or dropped off at the Assessor’s Office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
