Meetings to update Hgtn. comprehensive plan

The City of Huntington Plan Commission will hold several meetings to update the city’s 2012 Comprehensive Plan. The first of these meetings will be held Feb. 28, in the Huntington Common Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m.

The public and other community stakeholders are invited to attend. The Plan Commission will convene several times early this year at its regular meeting dates to gather public input, review sections of the plan and hold a public hearing at the conclusion of the process. Once adopted by the Plan Commission, the Huntington Common Council will consider final approval of the updated plan.

The Comprehensive Plan update will enable the city to refine its collective vision to maintain and enhance the quality of life for the community. The process will update socioeconomic data, identify new priorities and mark portions of the original plan as completed. The Comprehensive Planning process provides the community with the opportunity to guide land use and development to meet the future needs of the city. Upon completion, the plan will continue to be used as the blueprint of the community for the next 15 to 20 years as it identifies policy initiatives, community goals, public projects and capital.

Similar to the original planning process in 2012, the plan update will be completed entirely in-house by the Plan Commission and staff of the city’s Community Development and Redevelopment Department with public input.

More information can be obtained by contacting Bryn Keplinger, director of the Community Development and Redevelopment Department, at 356-5146, or by viewing the Plan Update section on the department’s webpage at www.huntington.in.us/city.

The Huntington Common Council Chambers are located on the third floor of the Huntington City Building, 300 Cherry St.
