Filing for this year’s election starts on Jan. 9

Candidates may begin filing to run in this year’s municipal election primary on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Republican and Democrat candidates must file a declaration of candidacy with the Huntington County Clerk’s Office. In addition to the declaration, which is designated a CAN-42 form, candidates must file CAN-12 and CFA-1 forms as well. All of these forms can be obtained in the clerk’s office or online at www.state.in.us/sos/elections/4564.htm.

The declaration of candidacy must be filed in person.

Jan. 9 is also the first day that an independent or minor party candidate may file a petition of nomination for the municipal election.

Additionally, Jan. 9 is the first day to file a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate in the municipal election.

The following offices will be on the ballot in the primary election, which is set for Tuesday, May 7:

City of Huntington
Mayor.
Clerk-Treasurer.
Common Council, Districts 1 through 5.
Common Council, At Large (2).

Town of Andrews
Clerk-Treasurer.                                                                                                                                                                                             Town Council (3).
