Andrews Volunteer Fire Department readies for fund-raising mud bog

The Andrews Mud Bog is set for Saturday, Aug. 18, on property at the end of Terrell Street, in Andrews, at noon.

The event is a fund-raiser for the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department.

The sign-in period for individuals wishing to participate in the event will run from 10 a.m. to noon. There is a participation fee. Drivers ages 16 to 17 must have parental consent.

The event will feature several classes: six cylinders, stock 33, 35 and under, 40 and under, 44 and under and Power Wheels. All tires must be U.S. Department of Transportation-approved. Vehicles must have a rear hook point for a cable.

There will be a new class this year for vehicles with cut tires. The tires on these vehicles must have originally been approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The class is open to vehicles with four or six-cylinder engines that are naturally aspirated.

All vehicles will run twice. The last vehicle to run in a class will be the first one to run in the second round. Drivers must wear a helmet and seatbelt. No passengers are allowed in vehicles. All open vehicles must have a roll cage.

All vehicles that participate in the event must be washed before leaving the grounds.

The decisions of officials are final and unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

Concessions will be available for purchase. No alcoholic beverages are permitted at the event. Restrooms will be on site.

There is a fee for spectators, which is reduced for children ages 5 to 12. No pets are allowed. Pit passes will be available for purchase. Waivers must be signed before entering the pit area and children in the area must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
