Celebrate Recovery starting new group

A new Celebrate Recovery meeting is starting up in Huntington. Several area churches are working together to sponsor the group, including St. Peter’s First Community Church, New Hope Church and College Park Church.

Meetings will be held on Thursday nights beginning Aug. 23, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Peter’s First Community Church, 206 Etna Ave.

Celebrate Recovery deals with any type of addiction or problems that people are struggling to overcome.

Rev. Amos Rawley of New Hope Church says the Christian-based addiction recovery program is sorely needed in the community.

“Duane DuCharme is the regional director for Celebrate Recovery for northeast Indiana,” Rawley says. “He told us when we were working to start up … he said, ‘I can tell you that I get more calls from Huntington County than anywhere else in northeastern Indiana asking for this program.’”

A movie night is planned for Sunday, Aug. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at College Park Church, 1936 College Ave., Huntington.
The movie is “Home Run,” a PG-13 film about a baseball player battling alcoholism.

“The reason we’re showing that movie is because part of the purpose of that movie is to help people understand what Celebrate Recovery is and what it’s all about,” Rawley said. “We’re using it as a kind of informational-type meeting.”

DuCharme will also speak at the movie night, explaining more about the Celebrate Recovery program while answering any questions.

Volunteers who are interested in helping with the program are also needed.
