Helping Hands Community Garden open this afternoon, July 9, for harvest

The Helping Hands Community Garden, in Huntington, will open for harvest today, Monday, July 9, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Harvest hours will be on Mondays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be work days as needed.

Volunteers of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in the harvest.

Herbs, onions, green beans, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, eggplant, broccoli, cabbage, tomatillos, peas, radishes, Brussel sprouts, spinach, kohlrabi and pumpkins will be harvested.

A representative from Purdue Extension will be on site to assist harvesters and share recipes.

The garden is located next to Huntington North High School on Viking Lane, near the intersection with Jefferson Street. Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the high school on the west side of the garden.
