HU invites community to ‘Voice’ watch party

Huntington University is hosting a watch party for The Voice and the community is invited to join in with HU students tonight, Monday, April 16, as they support and celebrate Christiana Hicks’ success on The Voice.

Now that Hicks, who is performing under the stage name Christiana Danielle, has advanced to the live playoff rounds, HU is expanding its watch parties by moving them to Zurcher Auditorium in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Team Christiana T-shirts and free snacks will be available in the lobby beginning at 7:30 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Inviting both the Huntington and Fort Wayne communities has been a big effort, with alums jumping on board to design the Team Christiana T-shirt; students helping to plan the event, design the invitations and coordinate the decorations; local shops volunteering to offer cookies from Sugar Mama’s chocolates by The Party Shop, and coffee from JJ Java to attendees and more.

This event is also stretching to Hicks’ hometown of Fort Wayne. From her church to her high school to her track team to her first vocal coach, HU President Dr. Sherilyn Emberton is inviting people from Hicks’ life that have helped to mold her into the young woman she is today.

Huntington University has also been hosting its own Huntington University Voice Competition, complete with blind auditions, battle rounds, knockout rounds, and on April 16, playoff rounds. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch, and vote for, four students who made it through to the HU Playoff Rounds as they compete for a cash prize.

The Merillat Centre for the Arts is located at 520 Lake St., Huntington.
