Etna Avenue improvement project could be done by August

The inspection project supervisor for the Etna Avenue improvement project in Huntington reports that with good weather, the Etna Avenue project could be completed by August.

Morgan Reardon, the inspection project supervisor with Butler, Fairman & Seufert Inc. issued a report on Thursday, March 15, detailing timeline expectations for the project, based on inclement weather not slowing things down.

“Yes, the underground stuff is almost all done … it actually goes quite fast once we get to the driveways.”

Reardon noted that most asphalt plants are closed until April, but the contractor intends to be ready to move quickly once they are open.

Currently, the crew from Phend & Brown Inc. is working on setting up the water main from approximately halfway between Schultz Drive and Jessup Street. Road widening should begin on the east side of Etna Avenue from Waterworks Road to just north of Jessup Street.

April and May should see curbs and gutters installed on the east side of Etna, as well as asphalt driveways. Storm sewer inlet structures will be placed on the west side of Etna, and then the west side of Etna will get widened and curbs, gutters and driveways installed.

Etna Avenue from Waterworks Road to the Wabash River will be closed in June so the road reconstruction and all associated work can be completed for that section. Waterworks Road will be constructed so that it remains open at all times.

July and August could see the milling of the existing pavement and placing bituminous intermediate. The crew will complete final grading, seeding and sod, and striping and signs will be installed.

Reardon noted the schedule is very weather dependent.
