Camping season opens with outdoor cooking class

The Upper Wabash Interpretive Services gears up for the camping season on Saturday, April 17 at 10 a.m. with an outdoor cooking workshop at Mississinewa Lake.

The program includes hands-on instruction and tips by the Kokomo Kookers Dutch oven cooking club.

Participants cook and eat their own lunch and could win door prizes from Bozarth Country Store.

There is a program fee per person. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Call 468-2127 to register for this event.

After lunch, participants can choose to swap recipes or make a charcoal starter to use on future meals.

"Participants will find it easy and fun to cook in a Dutch oven over the campfire," says Teresa Rody, Interpretive Naturalist for the UWIS. "I'm sure that some will take the opportunity to camp for the weekend and try their hand at a few more campfire meals."

The reservoir's DNR office is located in the Miami State Recreation Area.
