Bare Necessities, the diaper ministry of Love In the Name of Christ, has a new location in the educational building at St. Peter Lutheran Church.

The ministry, which has been located in the church’s educational building since 2015, has moved to a lower level room in the same building. The new location has an entrance on John Street and provides better access for families to pick up the diapers, says Barba Eickhoff, one of two coordinators of the project.

The move was made possible by a grant from the Huntington County Community Foundation and matching funds from the scrip program at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Those funds paid for the renovation of the new room.

Love INC, Healthy Families and the Youth Services Bureau are partners in the project. Parents who are registered with Love INC can call in their diaper requests, which are relayed to Bare Necessities so packages of diapers can be prepared. Families associated with Healthy Families also receive diapers.

The diaper depot is open on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Bags for newborns are made by Janet Tellas and Gay Nordvik, members of Seminary United Methodist Church in Roanoke.

The diaper ministry is funded solely by donations placed in canisters at stores and restaurants in Huntington, Markle and Warren. The canisters are tended by Gil Shideler and Judy Juergens.

Bare Necessities is coordinated by Eickhoff and Pam Wertenberger. Janet Bennett, Allen Couch, Peggy Hoch and Marjorie Richardson assist with the distribution.
