Homemakers to celebrate Achievement Day

Huntington County Extension Homemakers will celebrate Achievement Day Thursday, April 15, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church.

The program, set to begin at 3 p.m., will honor the members' accomplishments for the year and highlight service within the organization.

Registration and judging of the creative arts contest will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The meeting will start at 3 p.m. with recognition of long term members and a memorial service for deceased members.

Guest speakers include Karen Hinshaw, consumer and family sciences educator with Purdue Extension Services, and Susy Jennings, family nutrition program educator. Installation of new officers will conclude the afternoon session.

Dinner will be served to the members at 6 p.m. Recognition of the year's accomplishments by each of the clubs will be highlighted. Recognition of new members and other award winners will follow.

Judging of creative arts will be held throughout the day. A kitchen shower will be held to collect items for the "Cooking with Love" program offered by the family nutrition program.

During the program year, Extension Homemakers provide education in all areas of family living. Programs are generally open to the public and cover a variety of topics. Ladies Day and open class activities at the Huntington County 4-H Fair are also funded through this group. Extension Homemakers also provide handmade book bags and books for the county's First Books/Head Start program.

A few of the activities that the club members participated in this year included making pillows for teenagers in the community, making turbans for cancer patients, donating kitchen and household items to the Cooking with Love program, sponsoring a scrapbooking workshop, making gift cards to nursing home patients, donating quilts for pediatric patients at Parkview Huntington Hospital as well as for Salvation Army and soldiers returning from war, adopt-a-family for the holiday programs, hosting a holiday cookie sale and collecting pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House.
