College ranking website rates HU as the safest college in all of Indiana

Huntington University has been named the seventh safest school in the United States and the safest school in Indiana by Colleges.Niche.com.

The website based its 2018 Safest College Campuses rankings on campus crime rate statistics compiled by the United States Department of Education and student reviews. It noted that the top ranked colleges have little or no campus crime, drugs or alcohol usage.

HU reported no serious crimes, which would include murder, burglary, arson and sexual assault, to the U.S. Department of Education in 2015, the most recent year for which reports are available.

The only crimes reported to the federal agency by HU that year were two drug abuse violations and five liquor law violations, although the crime report on HU’s website also includes 13 liquor law violations and one theft.

Justin Faw joined HU this fall as chief of campus police and safety, succeeding Barry Cochran in that position.
